Who is Jack Holder?

WWII Marine Corps Veteran, Jack Holder returned home from the war in the fall of 1945 to Tacoma, Washington. A life already encompassing two world wars and the Great Depression, being a single father of a son, and like the other 16,000,000 servicemen and women returning home, Jack contemplated what was he was going to do with the rest of his life. Jack began working as a distributor for the Nesbit Bottling Company in Tacoma, Washington. In 1948, he opened his first Dairy Queen in Roseburg, Oregon and soon after opened a second location in the same city. In 1955, he opened Jack’s Drive-Up in Medford, featuring 19 cent hamburgers, 11 cent fries, and 20 cent milkshakes. In 1957, he sold his businesses and moved his family to the “Valley of Hearts Delight” arriving in Santa Clara on the 4th of July. On December 29, 1957 he opened Uncle John’s Pancake House on El Camino real between Lincoln and Isabella and in the coming years expanded to Millbrae, San Jose Palo Alto. In 1967, Jack and his family opened Holder’s Country Inn in the old Town & Country Village Shopping Center and the business flourished until the future development plans of Santana Row forced the closure of this location. Jack and his wife Anne managed their restaurants while raising a family of six sons and a daughter, all of whom are still in the business. Our family traditions of friendly & attentive service, great food & reasonable prices continue to this day! From the Greatest Generation to the Post Millennial, we invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay at Jack Holder’s Restaurant and Bar and thank you for nearly 63 years of patronage!
